Landscape Accent Lighting

Filed Under (Lighting Ideas) by jlwilson64 on 18-06-2008

So! You've decided to do some landscaping. That's great! You've got the shrubbery planted, the flowers growing, and you can't wait to show it all off.

It's too bad passersby can't see it at night.... or can they? You can showcase your landscaping design at night also! All you need is lighting that will accent your chosen landscaping. Landscape lighting will make your home the talk of the block, and make your yard an oasis to be enjoyed both during the day and at night. Installing lights will bring out the beauty of your newly landscaped yard and create a vision for everyone to enjoy no matter what time of day or night it is.

How To Plan For Landscape Accent Lighting

Now, where to put the lights? Well, that's really up to you. The first thing is to determine which features you'd like to accent. Lighting up sidewalks and walkways is a common idea. Brightening up these areas is a wonderful way to make the front of your home a bright and cheerful sight for guests as they walk up to the front door. Solar landscape lighting may be a good idea in those areas. These lights use solar energy from the sun and will come on as it gets dark. No need for timers!

Another consideration would be using a spotlight to bring focus to a particular feature in the landscaping. This is a great way to guide the eye to a certain part of the yard that deserves a little extra attention. However, be careful not to place these lights in areas where they may shine into a neighbor's windows as they're very bright. Spotlights are also a way to play with light and shadow. You can create some unique designs much different from your overall daytime look using this type of landscape lighting. Keep in mind though; Spotlights and other more powerful lights need to be connected to a power source. Be sure to place your spotlights in areas where the cables they need to be attached to won't be a nuisance.

Along with enhancing your yard, landscape lighting is also a great way to make your home a safer place to live. Lighting up sidewalks and walkways lessons the chances of an accident happening. Accent lighting can be used to brighten up any dark corners of your yard to discourage any unwanted guests from the yard, lowering the chances of potential home invasions from occurring.

Using landscape lighting and solar landscape lighting is a great way to make your house stand out! As well as making your home safer, it brings out the beauty of your landscaping and will make you the envy of the neighborhood!

Good Landscape Lighting Design

Filed Under (Lighting Ideas) by jlwilson64 on 16-06-2008

The evening is the time that homeowners have to bring attention to their yards through the use outdoor landscape lighting. Good landscape lighting design is the effective combination of both the ability to showcase features in a yard as well as keep pathways safely lit. Being able to use a landscape lighting design to both keep a yard area safe as well as beautiful is the goal of lighting.

For homeowners, the beginning steps in deciding which areas to light up involves being both practical and creative. Often these areas are obvious, but sometimes a homeowner can be surprised by just how a good landscape lighting design can bring out the best in their yard.

Looking At Landscape Lighting Design

When choosing a landscape lighting design, keep in mind that there are several options available in lighting. Solar landscape lighting is a great way to showcase a particular area of a yard and doesn't have to be connected to an outlet in order to work; on the other hand, the light is often not as bright or strong as a traditionally a/c powered landscape light.

The traditional type of lighting will need to be connected to a power source so cables or extension cords will be needed to power these types of lights. This can be easily accomplished by digging small shallow trenches in order to bury the lines. Depending on a yards layout, this may not work for all areas of the yard, so the independent solar lights may be better solutions for pockets in the yard.

Determining which areas will be part of a landscape lighting design needs to be done before deciding what types of lights will work. Check out your yard front and back and make a choice on which features you would like to display. Is there a tree or bush that would give off good shadows if lit up? What about natural rock formations in the yard? Could a light enhance their appeal? Take some time to determine which areas of the yard would be enhanced with lighting.

Often homeowners decide to start their design by lighting sidewalks or pathways for safety reasons at night. These lights can be attractive during the day too, as there are many choices for consumers when it comes to lighting. From here, a homeowner can find a shrub line to cast light on or even cast light on the house itself.

By using a good landscape lighting design a homeowner can focus attention on their home at night as well as having decorative lights in the yard during the day.
